Rodless air cylinders are a type of pneumatic actuator that differ from traditional cylinders by eliminating the need for an external piston rod. Instead, they use an internal piston that moves within the cylinder barrel and transfers motion to an external carriage or slide, allowing linear motion to be transmitted along the cylinder body itself. This design makes rodless cylinders ideal for applications where space is limited, as they provide a longer stroke within a more compact overall length compared to standard cylinders with rods. Rodless air cylinders are commonly used in automation, packaging, and material handling systems due to their efficient use of space and ability to handle longer travel distances.
Rodless cylinders, also known as rodless pneumatic cylinders, operate by using compressed air to move an internal piston along the length of a sealed cylinder barrel. Unlike traditional cylinders that push or pull with an external rod, rodless pneumatic cylinders transfer the piston’s motion to an external carriage or slide mounted on the outside of the cylinder. This is typically achieved through a magnetic coupling or a mechanical connection (like a slotted tube with a sealing band).
When air is supplied to one side of the piston, it moves, and the motion is transferred to the external carriage, which moves along the outside of the cylinder.
